Fight Club? Or Food Play for Picky Eaters!

I hope I’m not the only one who remembers the ‘99 movie Fight Club. Either you love ❤️ or hate 😠 that show.

Anywho, food play is not about a fight. Food play is about basically 2 things. Touch & fun.

Touch 👆🏻- did you know your child won’t put a food in their mouth that they won’t touch? So first we work on touch with no expectations of tastes. (Well I know that’s our end goal, but we might not be there yet!)

Fun 😁 - often at meals there’s a lot of pressure to eat under a time crunch. During food play we can slow down, get messy and creative without anyone asking for a bite. This changes broccoli 🥦 from being the bad guy 😣 to broccoli being the fun paint brush 🖌 guy, or a tree, or sprinkling green fairy 🧚‍♀️ drops all over the place!

Sometimes your kiddo will have a whole other idea for what they want to do with that broccoli than you had planned. As best you can follow their lead. The best learning happens through child directed play.

Are mealtimes at your house more ❤️ or 😠? Send me an email and let me know.
